This course is intended for any persons who have responsibility for the Operation, Maintenance and/or Management of a Swimming Pool Facility. 

Course Description

It covers everything you need to effectively maintain a swimming pool.

You will also learn how to maintain water which is safe and pleasant to swim in, how to correctly test pool water and understand how to restore it to ideal conditions.

This certificate is valid for three years, and you will need to re-validate at this point.

We are changing how we deliver our Swimming Pool Technical Operator Course, and are now including Live Web based courses to our availability.

Course are now available via live online training. 

All courses are delivered by a PWTAG Accredited Tutor, and meet with PWTAG guidelines, and successful participants are eligible for admission to the PWTAG Swimming Pool Technical Operator register.

Courses available are delivered with flexibility in mind, with three options to choose from: 

  • Full Time Courses: 3 Consecutive Days, 9am to 4pm each day
  • Part Time Courses: 1 Day per week over 3 consecutive weeks, 9am to 4pm each day
  • Evening Courses: 1 evening per week for 6 weeks, 6pm – 9.30pm each evening.

All course participants will be assessed in the same manner by completing:

  • Work based assessments
  • End of course Online Exam

Course Program

A pass rate of 70% must be obtained to gain the Swimming Pool Technical Operator Certification.

Content includes:

  • Introduction
  • Controlling chlorine and chemical levels
  • Managing water supplies and water treatment
  • Testing for pollution and parasite infection
  • Maintaining pipes, circulation and filtration
  • Promoting health and safety
  • Disinfecting water
  • Balancing pH and alkalinity
  • Diagnosing and testing the water
  • Making savings on heating, ventilation and energy
  • Maintaining swimming pool hygiene
